Aesthetics, the beauty of Nora's reflection

Abstract

         Local culture can reflect identity of each area. In South Thailand, one of the prominent and well known features of local culture is Nora Performance. This type of performance is arranged merely in important events or festivals. However, in this fast changing world, such performance has gradually appeared. In order to conserve this valuable culture of South Thailand, the creator in this study decided to apply the art of carving a pitch of a banana stalk to create artistic works on Nora. The works’ characteristics were with the conception of beauty under the transience of time. It was expected that this would conserve as well as maintain both the art of ancient carving and the Nora Performance at the same time. The works may encourage a new angle on the presentation of the arts integrated by the local culture and also be constructive for those interested to further create their own works.
