The Development of Guidelines for Introducing Take-Home Exams to The First-Year Students, McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University

Abstract

This classroom research aimed to develop guidelines for introducing Take-Home Exams (THEs) and to assess the outcomes after administrating THEs for GE113 The Path to Wisdom taken by students from McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University. The sample was 99 first-year nursing students. Data were collected during the second semester of the 2021 academic year. Instruments for data collection were the guideline administrating records, questionnaires of satisfactions of taking guideline and instructors^, fieldnote.

The results revealed that the guidelines had 3 discrete phases: preparation for the exam, administrating the exam & post-test debrief. There were 10 discrete activities in the 3 phases. Participants^, overall opinion/satisfaction was at high level ( = 4.57, S.D.= 0.48). Participants rated   high-level of satisfaction for instructors^,  information about rules and regulations ( = 4.67, S.D.= 0.53), submission method ( = 4.63, S.D.= 0.54), 24 hours for THEs duration ( = 4.59, S.D.= 0.59). Submission rates for exam was 98.99 % with no case of copying answers among students. Therefore, the finding indicated that the guidelines would be appropriate for handling other take home exams of other courses in the future.
