Human Capital Competency Development in Health Tourism Attractions in Western Thailand, Towards Higher Tourism Qualities

Abstract

             The research aimed 1) to study community context, uniqueness and identity in tourism services of the area 2) to study the guidelines to improve the people’s potential who act as tourism service providers to lead to the of capability development and prepare services and tourism of each area 3) to develop human capital's ability to provide tourism services in health tourism destinations in the western region. By conducting site survey in 5 provinces namely, Klong Mahasawat Nakhon Pathom, Lao Tak Lak Floating market Rachaburi, Nong Rong community Kanchanaburi, Pala – U community Prachup KiriKhan and Nong Yai Plong community Phetchaburi with using qualitative research. For sampling group composed tourism entrepreneurs inside and outside the areas. The data collected by using meeting and group discussions methods with selecting purposive sampling group.

             The results indicated as follow; community context, uniqueness and identity in tourism services of all 5 areas: they had an outstanding feature of non-toxic agricultural products, and they were notable for the traditional way of life and local food in their communities, it had a strong reputation for strength community integration and there are their unique activities and attractions. As for the guidelines to the development of people’s potential who act as tourism service providers, it was found that they needed to develop potential in 1) English language development for entrepreneurs and youth tour guide, 2) Local product development to promote health tourism, 3) developing good host skills, 4) Community based Tourism management, 5) the homestay standard management, 6) hygiene management in health tourism attractions and safety management.

             Finally, the guidelines for the development of human capital's ability to provide tourism services in health tourism destinations in the western region to have potential and important features in terms of 1) tourism service skills 2) knowledge and understanding in health tourism attractions 3) English language communication skills 4) Community based Tourism management and 5) hygiene and safety.
