Beliefs about the City Pillar Shrine of Nakhon Si Thammarat Towards Believers

Abstract

             The objective of this article was to study the role of beliefs about the city pillar shrine of Nakhon Si Thammarat to 3 groups of believers who are politicians, merchants or businessmen, and the general public. The data was collected by using an in-depth and informal interviews. The data was collected and analyzed using Functionalism theory. The results of the research were presented by descriptive analysis method.

             The results of the study showed that the beliefs about the city pillar shrine of Nakhon Si Thammarat  play a role in three groups of believers who are national and local politicians, merchants or businessmen, both nationally and locally, including the general public in 4 aspects which are 1. the role in responding to the psychological needs of the believers, 2. the role of creating common sense among believers, 3. the role in cultivating morals and building yardstick for the believers, and 4. the role of economic development in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The role of these 4 beliefs responds to the needs of believers who have different problems and needs.
