Abstract

             This article aims to analyze the implications of the community culture as reflected in Prathomsuksa 2 Thai reading practices. This is a qualitative research, this research elicited data mainly from the “Prathomsuksa 2 Basic Vocabulary List Book” that is target population. With regard to the content analysis and discussion, the concepts of community and cultural studies were employed for descriptive analysis. The findings reveal that the reading practices based on their local contexts, and in the end, the community culture as reflected in the practices could imply 1) the establishment of rules for the locals to be aware of and follow accordingly, 2) the manifestation of local wisdom, and 3) the actual situation of their identities in ways of life. Optimistically, the significance of the community culture of the three southern border provinces therefore helps strengthen the understanding of cultural differences among people and raise public awareness of human values, that is, those living in the three southern border provinces are not different from those from the rest of Thailand.
