The Influence of Awareness on Retirement Preparation Behaviors of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Officials

This research aimed to: 1) study the awareness of retirement among the officials in the Finance Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA); 2) study retirement preparation behaviors of the BMA officials; 3) study retirement preparation behaviors of the BMA officials, classified by personal characteristics; and 4) study the influence of awareness on retirement preparation behaviors. The research instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. The results revealed that the overall awareness was ranked at high level. The awareness on mental state preparation was most concerned, followed by the awareness on health preparation, financial preparation, and residence preparation. In terms of retirement preparation behaviors, overall behaviors were ranked at high level. The mental state preparation was most performed, followed by financial, health, and residence preparation. Comparing retirement preparation behaviors among different personal characteristics of the BMA officials, it was found that the retirement preparation behaviors did not differ according to gender, age, education level, marital status, income, and working position. However, retirement preparation behaviors differed according to working duration. In terms of the influence of the awareness on retirement preparation behaviors, it was found that the awareness on financial, health, mental state, and residence preparation had a positive influence on retirement preparation behaviors at statistically-significance level of .05. The awareness on health preparation was seen to be the most influential factor, followed by the residence, financial, and mental state awareness.
