A Study of the Relationship of the Oboes Audio Features in Mekong River Region

Abstract

                A Study of the Relationship of the Oboes Audio Features in Mekong River Region is a qualitative research. The objectives were: 1) study of the oboes sound system in Mekong river region; and 2) study of the relationship of the oboes role play in Mekong river region. In this study, the researchers studied twelve types of oboe from six countries in the Mekong river region. Then there was fieldwork to study insights and analyze data to connect relationships. The results can be described as following. Most the oboes in Mekong river region systems are compatible with 2 music scales types, including: 1) Pentatonic scale; and 2) Dorian mode. And then the number of sounds of the oboes in each type of Mekong music culture are different according to the music culture of each place. In a low tone, there is a hoarse sound. Mid-tone tones sound soft and sweet. The high tone has a bright, cheerful sound. In terms of relationships, there are 3 types of instrumental roles which are: 1) Used for entertainment; 2) Used for courtship; and 3) Used for rituals.
