Organizing Learning Experiences on How to Use a Hoe
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background and Objectives: Learning experiences (L.E.) are learning situations to allow learners to learn and change their behavior according to the objectives set by the teacher. This is one idea that can help learners become more competent or skilled. This research study therefore applied the principle of organizing learning experiences to organize learning experiences on how to use a hoe, which is an important agricultural tool and necessary for the agricultural occupation. The objective of this research was to design and evaluate a Learning Experience on how to use a hoe.
Methodology: The methodology was divided into five steps; 1) designing a L.E. on how to use a hoe consisting of six components including content, instructional objectives, behavioral objectives, the learning situation, the instructional media and an evaluation of the process, 2) implementing the L.E. in the 1st round with 28 samples, 3) evaluating and revising the L.E. topic in how to use a hoe 4) implementing the L.E. for a 2nd round with 9 samples, and 5) concluding the L.E.
Main Results: The results revealed that learning elemental content on how to use a hoe can be classified into four issues; 1) the importance of preparing land for planting, 2) the components of a hoe, 3) the suitability of the hoe for the body, 4) the maintenance of a hoe. Developing the elemental content on how to use a hoe was one issue as well as using a hoe for land preparation. The L.E. model on how to use a hoe was divided into three models as follows: Model 1 was for people who had not been injured by a hoe and who had hoe experience in agriculture and people who had not been injured by a hoe but had hoe experience in others; Model 2 was for people who had not been injured by a hoe and had experience using a hoe in agriculture; and Model 3 for people who didn’t have experience using a hoe for agriculture.
Discussions: The design of learning experiences on how to use a hoe in 3 Model, Model 1 were for two people (1) people who had not been injured by a hoe, (2) who had hoe experience in agriculture and people who had not been injured by a hoe but had hoe experience in others; Model 2 was for people who had not been injured by a hoe and had experience using a hoe in agriculture; and Model 3 for people who didn’t have experience using a hoe for agriculture. This design for a learning experience highlights each person's distinct qualities and distinctions. It shows that even though individuals have different characteristics, they can all have knowledge about using a hoe and be able to use a hoe to dig the soil to prepare it for agriculture correctly.
Conclusions: The evaluation and revision of the L.E. on how to use a hoe showed that the biggest challenge was on how to use a hoe efficiently and all the samples achieved the 100% of the behavioral objectives.
