Abstract

The objectives of this research were to examine the quality of working life level of Sila Martsri Stone Mill workers and to compare their quality of work life, classified by personal characteristics and work motivation factors. The study sample consisted of the Mill’s 108 Thai workers. The data were gathered by questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and statistical differences were tested using the t-test and the analysis of variance. Paired differences were established with the Scheffé method and the least significant difference method. Statistical significance level was set at 0.05.

Research results indicated that the Sila Martsri Stone Mill workers experienced a good level of quality of working life. It was found that participation in work and relationship with other workers had the highest average scores, followed by career path opportunity and work security, work and general livelihood, safe working condition and health promotion, and adequate and fair compensation, respectively. Hypothesis testing on personal characteristics indicated that there was no statistically significant difference among workers with different gender, age, educational background, marital status, number of children, income, and duration in working hours. However, quality of working life in different departments of the workers was established at the 0.05 statistical significance level. Moreover, work motivation, in terms of different work administration, work assignment, and welfare, all led to different levels quality of working life at the statistical significance level of 0.001.
