Abstract

The objectives of this research are as follows: 1) To study the overall German language learning strategies among high school students at Satree Phuket School. 2) To examine the use of German language learning strategies by individual grade levels among high school students at Satree Phuket School, focusing on 124 students enrolled in German language courses during the first semester of the academic year 2023. The research employed a questionnaire designed to assess various German language learning strategies utilized by the students. These strategies are categorized into six types: (1) Memory strategies (2) Cognitive strategies (3) Compensation strategies (4) Metacognitive strategies (5) Affective strategies (6) Social strategies. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

The results indicate that, overall, students in grades 10-12 at Satree Phuket School use affective strategies the most, followed by metacognitive strategies, while cognitive strategies are used the least. When broken down by grade level: Grade 10 and Grade 12 students predominantly use affective strategies. Grade 11 students primarily employ metacognitive strategies. Across grades 10-12, cognitive strategies are the least utilized.
