Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to compare the analytical thinking skills on natural disasters in South America among students before and after instruction using the 7-step learning cycle instructional model combined with educational games, and 2) to study the students’ satisfaction with the instructional management on natural disasters in South America using the 7-step learning cycle model combined with educational games. The sample consisted of 38 students from grade 9 at Wat Suthiwararam School, who were enrolled in the first semester of the 2024 academic year, selected through cluster random sampling. The research instruments included 1) lesson plans utilizing the 7-step learning cycle instructional model on natural disasters in South America, 2) educational games on natural disasters in South America, 3) a 20-item multiple-choice analytical thinking skills test, and 4) a student satisfaction questionnaire on instructional management using the 7-step learning cycle instructional model combined with educational games. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics (dependent t-test).

The results revealed that 1) students who received instruction through the 7-Steps learning cycle instructional model combined with educational games on natural disasters in South America had significantly higher post-instruction analytical thinking skills than pre-instruction with a statistical significance level of .05; and 2) students’ satisfaction with the instruction using the 7-Steps learning cycle instructional model combined with educational games was at the highest level.
