Abstract

This research article aims to analyze 3 novels written by Pongsakorn with contents concerning jewelry, namely Kamlai Mart, Phet Akkanee, and Kunthon Sawart. The analysis focuses on 2 main points: the plot and the story concept. The results reveal the characteristic of the plot in which Pongsakorn employs jewelry to create conflicts, thus generating a main plot and multiple sub-plots as well as connecting conflicts in the character’s previous life to those of their current life. The story is projected based on 3 concepts: the concept of love, the concept of power, and the concept of honor. In addition, Pongsakorn presents additional overall concepts relating to the genuine value and the artificial value perceived in jewelry in order to communicate to the readers that the genuine value is found in the moral and ethical conduct and intention, not in the possession of wealth, power, position and profits gained and dictated by manipulations and self-interest.
