Research and Development of Bamboo Products into Innovative Products, Loei Province

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to: 1) study the types of products and the production process of bamboo products in Loei province, 2) analyze the consumers’ needs of the bamboo products in Loei province, 3) develop bamboo products into the innovative products of Ban Pone Pa Daeng community, Moo 3, Seow Sub-District, Muang Loei District, Loei Province, and 4) evaluate the consumers’ satisfaction with the development of bamboo products developed. This research employed both quantitative and qualitative research designs. The quantitative data was collected from 100 consumers of bamboo products in Loei province. These participants were obtained from using the W.G Cochran sampling techniques (these techniques were used because there were no exact numbers of the customers who bought bamboo products and there was no record of them). The questionnaire asking about the purchasing behaviors and purchasing demand of the customers who bought bamboo products were used to collect the data. Statistics used for analyzing the quantitative data were percentage Standard Deviation and frequency; whereas, content analysis was used for analyzing the qualitative data. The qualitative data was collected from groups of people whose works relate 175 participants who bought reed mat products who were obtained by purposive sampling. A brainstorming session, an in-depth interview, a focus-group conversation, and a participatory observation were used to obtain qualitative data. The results of the research were as follows. The development of the bamboo products into the innovative products created 4 types of products : (1) household products i.e. tube-shaped bamboo kitchenware, spoon containers, saucers, rice containers in a diamond and an oval shapes, (2) home decoration items such as lamps, (3) home products like tissue boxes, all-purposed tubes, and cradles, and (4) souvenirs, for examples,mobile phone holders, handbags, purses, wallets, and pen cases.
