Ethnic Identities Reflects Through Storytelling to Promote Community-Based Tourism

Abstract

ABSTRACT


 The objective of research was to analyze the common and distinctive characters of ethnic identity via the storytelling of 1) Lahu from Pakasantisuk Community, Baan Maejam, Mueang Pan District, 2) Khmu from Huai Tad Community, Baan Jampui, Mae Moh District, and 3) Karen from Baan Pongnamron Soerm Ngam District, Lampang Province in order to promote the community-based tourism. The resource derived from the official representatives of community that were community leaders, and informal representatives such as local wisdom, elder, who settled down at first phase for 30 people. The research tool was questionnaire then analyzed by descriptive analysis. The result found that 1) the storytelling from Lahu, Khmu, and Karen had common characters about closed-to-nature lifestyle and tradition of Kin-Khaw-Mai were in common. 2) the distinctive characters of identity were told via storytelling were bamboo weaving of Lahu’s, closed-to-nature lifestyle of Khmu’s, and backstrap loom of Karen.
