Abstract

This research aims to study approaches to problem-based learning management in the context of COVID-19 pandemic for developing mathematical connection skills in data presentation and to study the results of the students’ mathematical connection skills development that gained a problem-based learning management in the context of COVID-19 pandemic. The participants were 21 students in grade 6 from one school in Phitsanulok Province in the second semester of 2021 academic year. The research used the classroom action research, and the total duration of the study was 10 hours. The instruments included a set of lesson plans, activity sheets, reflective learning journals, and a mathematical connection test. Content analysis was applied in analyzing the data. The statistics used were mean, percentage, standard deviation, and triangulation. The results showed 1. that the problem-based management approaches in the context of COVID-19 pandemic should be started with real-life problems for students’ familiarity and encouragement to their understanding of the situations easier. 2. These would encourage the linking of knowledge within mathematics to create a logical relationship based on mathematical principles through writing by using numbers, languages, and mathematical symbols as well as linking knowledge with other sciences in solving the problem. In doing this, teachers should stimulate students by asking questions for learners to do activities regularly to create 3. The circumstances of students’ arguments and exchanges ideas which were led to discussions and conclusions. The results found that the students appeared to have development of mathematical connection skills were found that the development of the mathematics concept and another, mathematical and other subjects, and mathematics and daily life situations respectively.
