Abstract

This Article aimed to study (1) to develop a proactive mathematics teaching activity model and (2) to compare the academic achievement and attitudes of students who study using the lecture method and the proactive mathematics teaching activity model. The sample consisted of 49 students who registered for two quantitative analysis skills courses. They was selected by simple random sampling. the instrument for collecting data was (1) learning management plan (2) achievement test (3) attitude test. Analysis data by mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics.

The research results were found as follows;

  1. The active mathematics learning activity plan covers the content of the quantitative analysis skills course for 15 weeks. Each plan consists of learning objectives, learning activities, learning media/resources, measurement and evaluation. The lesson plan included six active learning formats: 1) exchanging learning, 2) collaborative learning, 3) game-based learning,
    4) video analysis learning, 5) case study learning, and 6) mind mapping learning

  2. The achievement of students learning through active mathematics activities (Mean = 30.85, S.D. = 6.49) and those learning through lectures (Mean = 27.95, S.D. = 4.28) was significantly different at a statistical level of .05. Similarly, the attitudes of students learning through active mathematics activities (Mean = 4.20, S.D. = 0.70) and the control group (Mean = 3.71, S.D. = 0.83) were significantly different at a statistical level of .05.

Students' academic achievement and attitudes were higher when learning through active mathematics activities.
