DEVELOPING ENGLISH SPELLING PRONUNCIATION SKILLS BY USING PHONICS READING EXCERCISES BOOK OF GRADE 3 STUDENT SONGVITHAYA THEPARAK

Abstract

          The objectives of this study were to compare the development of English spelling skills before and after using phonics reading exercise books and to study the students' satisfaction with the teaching using the phonics reading exercise books. The target group is 5 students in grade 3/2 at Songvithaya Theparak School who were incompetent at reading aloud and spelling in English. The research findings showed that:

          1) The students improved their English reading and spelling skills after doing the Phonics reading skill exercises. The students had an average academic achievement of 7.6 points representing 76 percent of the full score.    

          2) The learners showed the highest satisfaction toward using the phonics reading books. The mean score was 4.76 and the standard deviation was at 0.39.
