KRISANA SORN NONG KHAMCHAN: KHMER LOANWORDS RELATED TO DIDACTIC LITERATURE FOR WOMEN

Abstract

This academic article aims to analyze the characteristics of Khmer loanwords related to didactic literature for women “Krisana Sorn Nong Khamchan” composed by Somdej Phra Maha Samanajao Krom Phra Paramanuchitchinorosa in terms of features of borrowing Khmer words and the use of Khmer loanwords in the Thai language, utilizing related document and literature reviews. The study found that Khmer loanwords contribute to Thai literature in three main areas: royal words, words in the ancient languages and literature, and common words in everyday life. Word formation from Khmer language and the use of Khmer loanwords in the Thai language indicate the influence of Khmer loanwords in the Thai literary writing, resulting in the use of Khmer loanwords nowadays in Thailand. In addition, the similarity of basic words in Thai and Khmer languages, particularly common words in everyday life, reflects a cultural relationship, accounting for the abundance of Thai loanwords in the Khmer language.
