Abstract

This article examines the rhythmic patterns of drum sets used in ballroom dancing in Thailand. The study found that most of the drum set rhythms used in dance accompaniment in Thailand are in the ballroom genre, with Latin American and other miscellaneous rhythmic types also being utilized. In ballroom dancing, a live band is essential, and the drummer plays a crucial role in maintaining a consistent rhythm to complement the dancers' movements. While dancing has become less popular, there are still songs that utilize this type of rhythm. As a result of its declining popularity, these rhythmic patterns are seldom incorporated into drum practice or teaching. Few drummers possess the ability to play the drums with an understanding of each type of rhythm and convey the music's emotions. Therefore, drum teachers and drummers should incorporate ballroom rhythm exercises, Latin American rhythm types, and miscellaneous rhythmic types into their practice and teaching of the drum set. This will enhance drumming skills and provide an understanding and knowledge of these genres to be applied in a variety of music styles.
