The Study of the Management of Marine Tourism Activity in Phuket Province According to the Standard of Department of Tourism Ministry of Tourism and Sports

Abstract

This research aimed to study 1) The management of Marine Tourism activity in Phuket province according to the standards of the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and 2) The outstanding marine tourism activities in Phuket province. It uses in-depth interviews with representatives from government and private sectors, and residents’ opinions on managing marine tourism activity in Phuket to collect qualitative data. The research results were as follows: at present, the overall management of marine tourism activity in Phuket province, including entrepreneurial and area management, meets the 18 standards of the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Although the opinion on each standard varied according to the informant and was trivial, it is essential to pay attention to it. For example, there are fewer vehicles used for public transportation, and the competency to support has not been cleared, etc. Outstanding marine tourism activities in Phuket province are boating activities, diving (scuba diving and snorkeling), chilling on the beach and swimming, water sports, and sunset tours.
