The Application of the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy for Self-development of the Youths in the Digital Era

Abstract
This academic article aims to (1) explore how the philosophy and spirit of His Majesty King Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty can be integrated into various educational disciplines to promote the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, as envisioned by His Majesty, for self-development among the digital-age youth. (2) advocate for the continued implementation of this philosophy within the Ministry of Education’s curricula and general education courses at the tertiary level. Although the government has incorporated this philosophy into Thailand’s 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2023–2027) as a guiding framework for national development, the cultivation of personal values remains distant from the commitment to uphold, preserve, and extend the Sufficiency Economy principles as a foundation for sustainable self-development. These principles also potentially elevate the quality of life for digital-age youth, individually and collectively, by promoting mindful consumption, sufficient rest, regular exercise, saving habits, mental health care, and a spirit of sharing. Therefore, digital-age youth who embrace moderation, mindfulness, integrity, responsibility, and self-discipline will develop habits that lead to happiness, security, and sustainability in their digital lives and society.
