The Study and Development in Design of Handicraft Products made from Coconut-Palm Wood: Household Items and Ornaments.

Abstract

This research focused on studying consumers’ needs towards the designs of Handicrafts products made from coconut-palm wood: household items and ornaments, The researcher had studied the related information, then used it in developing the designs of handicraft products made from coconut-palm wood household items and ornaments. And, the last stage was to study the consumers’ opinion toward the developed designs of handicraft products made from coconut-palm wood: household items and ornaments. The research and data collection were conducted in Phetchaburi province. The data of satisfaction toward the designs of product showed that the designs should have focused on using local materials since they obviously represented the local identity and culture. The areas needed to be improved were that the shape of the products should be suitable and related to usability significantly and should have explicit and various utilization. The shape had to be exotic. The designs needed to be creative and distinctive as well as suitable for utilization emphasizing on simple production process that could support the tools and craftsman’s ability. The result of the designs and the study of satisfaction of people interested in the products could be summarized as follow, in general, the satisfaction of people interested in the designs of handcraft products made from coconut-palm: household items and ornaments in all aspects was high. When examined individually, the result found that the satisfaction toward utilization was the highest, the satisfaction toward the designs was high, the satisfaction toward the cultural preservation was high, and the satisfaction toward the designs’ beauty was high respectively.
