Development of a Promblem-Based Learning Activity to Teach Liner Equations with Two Variables

Abstract
The purposes of this research were: 1) to develop activity packages using problem-based learning on linear equations of two variables with an effectiveness according to the 75/75 criteria, 2) to compare learning achievement before and after learning with the activity packages using problem-based learning on linear equations of two variables, and 3) to compare the students’ problem solving skills before and after utilizing the activity packages using problem-based learning on linear equations of two variables. The population used in this research was 180 mathayomsuksa 1 and 3 students from the schools in Klung District, Weluwan Network Coordination Group in the second semester of the academic year 2020. The sample was 30 Mathayomsuksa 1 and 3 students from Bantrokgnong School under Chanthaburi primary educational service area office 2, gaining from purposive sampling. The research instruments included: 1) three activity packages using problem-based learning on linear equations of two variables, 2) a test of learning achievement on linear equations of two variables and, 3) a test on mathematics problem-solving skills. Statistics used for data analysis included: mean, standard deviation (S.D.) and T-test.
The results found that: 1) the effectiveness of the developed activity packages using problem-based learning on Linear Equations of Two Variables was 83.04/83.67, which was higher than the 75/75 criteria, 2) the learning achievement with the activity packages using problem-based learning on linear equations of two variables showed that post-test was higher than pre-test with statistical significance at the .05 level, and 3) the mathematics problem solving skills with the activity packages using problem-based learning on linear equations of two variables showed that post-test was higher than pre-test with statistical significance at the .05 level.
