Development of Curriculum based on Community Economic Using Participatory Action Research for Enhancing Core Competency, Life Skill and Career, and Learning Retention of Lower Secondary Students

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) evaluate need assessment and develop curriculum development guideline 2) develop curriculum based on community economic using participatory action research for enhancing core competency, life skill and career, and Learning retention 3) study curriculum implementation results and 4) evaluate developed curriculum. The research had 4 phases; phase 1 sample group were 7 school committees, 16 teachers, 70 lower secondary students, and 70 parents using curriculum evaluation form, focus group discussion form, phase 2 sample group were 7 teachers, 20 personals from partnership networks, 5 experts and 30 lower secondary students; phase 3 target group were 68 lower secondary students using core competency evaluation form, life skill and career evaluation form, focus group discussion form, learning outcome evaluation form, and opinionnaire, phase 4 sample group were 7 teachers and 5 experts using curriculum development evaluation form. Data analysis by mean, SD, percentage, PNI_modified, and content analysis. Research results were 1) Overall evaluation of need assessment had PNI_modified=0.63 and there were 8 curriculum development guidelines 2) curriculum consisted of target, content, learning management strategy, measurement and evaluation, learning resources, curriculum evaluation, and curriculum administration 3) curriculum implementation results found student’s core competency, life skill and career were higher than before studied, the growth score were 41.55 and 41.22 respectively, and there was learning retention, learning outcome was higher, opinion towards curriculum was at the highest level and 4) evaluation of developed curriculum was at the highest level.
