A Study of Chinese Discourse Markers in Chinese Speaking Textbook “Short-term Spoken Chinese”

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the discourse markers used in Chinese Conversations Study as a Foreign Language Lecture Book in order to explore techniques for teaching Chinese Language discourse markers to those who studied Chinese as a foreign language. The findings from an analysis of Chinese conversation Text books indicated that positions of discourse markers index could be divided into: primary turn, responding turn, interrupting turn, continuing turn and ending turn. And functions of discourse markers in primary turn is open the new topic in conversation and additional comment or information; functions of discourse markers in responding turn could be divided into: agreement, emotional and disagree; functions of discourse markers in interrupting turn is confliction; functions of discourse markers in continuing turn could be divided into: Topic Shift, Continue Conversation; functions of discourse markers in ending turn could be divided into: Asking for Opinions and to end the conversation.
