A Research on the Craftsmanship and Artistic Characteristics of Inlaid Porcelain in the Chaoshan Area of China-A Case of Kaiyuan Temple in Chaozhou

Abstract
This research aims to study 1. the materials, tools, and basic knowledge used in the production of Inlaid porcelain, 2. investigate the production processes and techniques of Inlaid porcelain in the Chaoshan region, 3. analyze the artistic characteristics and culturally embedded meanings of Inlaid porcelain in the Kaiyuan Temple area of the Chaoshan region. Porcelain inlay craft is a kind of folk craft in Chaoshan area, Guangdong Province, China. With its colorful and unique artistic style, it has become a kind of architectural decoration with local characteristics. It blooms its unique charm under the precipitation of history. The epitome of Chaoshan traditional culture. Such a traditional architectural decorative art with unique local characteristics was rated as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008. This study collects relevant data through fieldwork and selects individual cases to study the production process, artistic characteristics and cultural connotation of inlaid porcelain. The study found that the materials and tools used for inlaying porcelain are unique, and the production forms are various. Through the research on the specific case works of Kaiyuan Temple in Chaozhou City, it is shown that inlaid porcelain is endowed with profound cultural connotation and unique aesthetic orientation in Chaoshan area, which provides theoretical support for further research on the future development of inlaid porcelain.
