The Development of Achievement in Mathematics with the use of Project Work for Primary year 6 Students: A Case Study of Bansapradoo Elementntary School Under Education District Office Area 3 Phetchabun

Abstract

This research deals with development of mathematics achievement of Primary year 6 students with the use of project work.  The  research objectives were in four: 1) to create a mathematics project containing 12 project-based lesson plans at the Primary 6 level—all being content-validated by the mathematician-specialists, 2) to compare the students achievements in the pre-test and the post-test after the use of project work, and 3) to assess their learning attitudes after project work. Fifteen students of Primary year 6 of Bansapradoo Primary School wear the population. There were four research instruments used to secure data needed for the study :             1) the teacher’s observation records in project work,2) the pre-test and post-test of students mathematics achievement (IOC = 0.87), and 3) the assessment of students’ attitudes toward mathematics learning via project work (IOC = 0.84).

The results of the study point to 1) a statistical significance difference at .05 of the students achievement on the pre-test and post-test (Pre-test Mean = 12.47, S.D. = 3.00, Post-test  Mean = 26.40, S.D. = 11.24), and 2) the subjects having positive attitudes toward mathematics learning via project work (Mean = 4.39, S.D.= 0.17).The overall results reveal and support practicality of project work when applied to the development of mathematics learning achievement at the primary school level.
