Measures of Crime Preventing of the Public Participation in Phitsanulok Province

Abstract

The purposes of the research were 1) to study factors that affect to the public participation, and 2) to study measures to prevent crime of the public participation in Phitsanulok province. The sample group in this research was 398 citizens who have lived in Phitsanulok province. The research tools were a questionnaire and an interview, and the statistical data analysis consisted of frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, correlation, and content analysis.

According to the data analysis, it was found that, in terms of personal factors, all of the respondents were 57.2% female and 42.8% male. Most of them were at the age of 41-50 and were married, and most of them had 4 members in their family. Most of them graduated in educational level of primary school together with their income between 5,001 – 10,000 Bath. With regard to social factors, it could be stated that most of the respondents’ community pattern was in habitation areas, and they have lived in the communities for over 10 years. Most of them had no involvement in crime; in addition, they were well familiar with local police officers personally. As a result of participating in a training course for preventing crime, after that, they provided more cooperation with the police officers. Regarding the results of analyzing levels of public participation in criminal prevention, the data was analyzed in terms of planning, implementation, support, and assessment, of which overall result was in moderate level. As for analyzing measures of public participation in criminal prevention, it could be concluded that there were 3 measures; an environmental measure, a measure of criminal prevention by public participation, and a surveillance measure by public participation for those who had the risk of committing a crime.
