Two Decade Ethnomusicology Research in Thailand

Abstract

         This research aims to Study the characteristics of ethnomusicological research in Thailand over 20 years between 1997 and 2017 by using document research methodology and using analytical tables as a tool. In analyzing the characteristics of thesis at the master's and doctoral level, 429 topics.

          The results of the research revealed that:
          The names of the courses and the branches differ both directly and not according to the nature of the ethnomusicology. 75.52 percent of the research used research methods in ethnomusicology. And 24.48 percent use the method of musicology and documentary research methodology. In the domestic research studies at both master's and doctorate degrees, 398 topics, accounting for 89.98 percent, with the central region being 52.91 percent more than other regions. The research that studied Thai music, Western music and music analysis was the most found at 29.84%, followed by music and rituals and folk music and others. The 2003 research at the master's degree was the most common at 8.15 percent, the lowest in 2015, 0.7 percent, and in 2014 at the doctorate level, the most common 2.79 percent, the lowest in 2010, 0.7 percent. 25.76% of Thesis Advisors did not have an academic position, but have a doctoral degree, 18.19% are assistant professors and 63.64% non-graduate in musicology degree.
