The study of onomatopoeia in the Chinese novel 'Xiao Bao Zhuang' and the translation methods used in the Thai version

Abstract

          This article aims to study the onomatopoeia appearing in the Chinese novel 'Xiao Bao Zhuang' and the translation methods used in the Thai version, 'Muban Lek Trakun Pao'. The study also analyzes the types of onomatopoeia. The research found that onomatopoeia can be categorized into four types: natural sounds, human sounds, animal sounds, and object sounds. It was found that the translation of onomatopoeia in the Thai version, 'Muban Lek Trakun Pao', primarily used three methods: cultural equivalent, transference and label translation.
