Development of executive function using social studies instruction combined with read aloud strategies for first grade students: case study of crazy ancient innovations' tatu and patu children picture book

Abstract

 This research aims to 1) develop social studies learning activities to enhance brain skills Executive Functions with Read Aloud techniques from picture books for primary 1 student: A case study of the picture book titled The Strange Retro Inventions of Tatu and Patu; and 2) examine the quality of social studies activities using quantitative research. The sample group used in the study was 20 primary 1 students at Wat Nilphet School. The instruments used were brain skills assessment forms and behavioral observation forms. The statistics used for data analysis were mean, standard deviation, and repeated-measures polynomial analysis of variance.

The research results found that 1) the learning management design took into account behaviors that reflect brain skills, basic skills groups, by integrating them in learning goals, setting learning objectives that link brain skills, designing social studies learning activities that focus on learners, and Active Learning activities through various learning activity formats. The Read Aloud reading approach using picture books consists of 2 main parts: 1. Selecting picture books that are appropriate for the content to be learned and appropriate for the age of the learners. 2. Reading techniques, including stimulating interest by pausing to look at pictures, using questions during reading to train memory for use. Ask open-ended questions to encourage thought-provoking and pauses in reading to enhance reflective thinking skills. 2) The results of the quality inspection of learning management activities from experts were very consistent. The results of the quality inspection of the brain skills assessment form and the behavioral observation form were very good.
