The Origin and Practices from TIPITAKA

Abstract

This article aims to present the content about the toilet (Vejjakudhi) appeared in the Vinaya Pitaka. It consists of 2 main points: 1) The history of toilets in the era of the Buddha that monks defecate in general place of the temple until the Buddha allowed the limited area in the temple for monk’s defecation and develop it in order to be a toilet with variety of elements such as fences, arches and arches. 2) Vejjakudhivatra : The practice for toilet user, detailed by procedural step and can be applied even in modern times. The content in second issue consists of anus cleaning after defecation, queuing to use the toilet, user’s practices before and after defecation including practices for the hygiene of toilet user.
