The biopower in Michel Foucault’s thought

Abstract

This article is about the biopower in Michel Foucault’s thought. It wants to show that biopower, which exists in the human’s mind and was used by human beings as an instrument for self-control, is in fact, a technique for govern in the modern time called bio-politics, which emphasized in controlling human’s body and mind  in depth level. The paper also revealed that biopower is the exercise of power on economico-political anatomy dimension through hidden strategies, that is, the power works coextensively with knowledge under discipline as mechanism of power in order to obtain the utility and docility body as a productive body. Because the heart of biopower in economic dimension, is to concentrate in utilitarianism and in new political dimension, is to make the body an obedient.

The author’s wish is that the article will reveal the complexion of power in modern society which covers the details of the use of individual’s power in daily life. Although, we are forced to be get involved in power in some sense, we can be with it understanding and realizing somebody’s game.
