Abstract

This academic paper demonstrates the result of research and innovation development to handle the increasingly mental problem of the elderly. The research aims at examining problems, needs and mental health level of the elderly and to develop the Threefold Training based innovation to promote the mental health of the elderly and to evaluate and to propose the Threefold Training based innovation prototype to promote the mental health of the elderly.

The research methodology is to survey problems and requirements from relevant documents together with conducting survey research and applying a knowledge engineering tool to synthesize users’ systematically. Also, to design and develop the system including defining technological tools required to develop the system. The mobile application trials divided into two groups of data providers, consisting of a group of system demanders of 19 people and an innovation testing group of 30 people. Data collection obtained through in-depth interviews and assessment questionnaire. Data collection represents a participatory demand and research tool used as question sets, questionnaires, satisfaction assessment forms and general health questionnaires of the Department of Mental Health.

The results revealed that the elders are prone to have physical and mental health problems, and they need to support and improve as well. It also found the elderly mental problems in the area of Chiang Mai City. The development of technological innovations has produced a mobile application called "In-House Temple". This has introduced technological innovations to practice in promoting the mental health of the elderly according to the Threefold Training. That is to say, to raise the temple into the house with the physical and mental development and restraint of not undertaking unwholesome actions. This mobile application provided the elderly with intelligence to improve mental health. Besides, this research presented the results of innovative assessments, recommendations to be able to develop more significantly with the network of temples, communities and to develop mental health based on the Threefold Training.
