Local Wisdom Vocabulary in Thai Southern Thai Dialects, Khao Khao Subdistrict, La-ngu District, Satun Province

The purpose of this study is to investigate local wisdom in Khao Khao Subdistrict, La - ngu District, Satun Province, and to analyze local wisdom vocabulary in the Thai dialect in Khao Khao Subdistrict. Two male and female representatives, esteemed members of the community who strictly adhere to language standards, participated in the study. Information was gathered through in - depth group interviews with local inhabitants and reported using descriptive analytic techniques. The research identified 8 characteristics of local wisdom in Khao Khao Subdistrict: ancestral settlement, food and cooking methods, occupation and work practices, tree planting, diseases and medicine, ethnology, teachings, recreation and festivals, and significant days. When local wisdom words in the Thai language specific to Khao Khao Subdistrict were categorized according to semantics field theory, they fell into 8 categories: 12 words related to vocations, 17 verbs, 15 equipment - related words, 22 plant - related terms, 15 food - related words, 10 words related to faith, 3 recreational terms, and 2 words related to hairstyles. The results of the study reveal local wisdom concerning both humans and supernatural beings. These relationships significantly impact daily life and contribute to the unique local wisdom of the community. The examination of vocabulary reflecting wisdom highlights linguistic concepts. Additionally, these words can be leveraged to support and enhance the community's economy.
