Abstract
This research aimed to study moral representations through major characters in the basic Thai text book
series PasaPatee for students from grades 1-6 of primary schools. The concept of representations and that
of virtuous characters and vicious characters were employed in the analysis.
The results were as follows.
1) The desirable representations appearing through the virtuous characters included emotional
intelligence, ethics, helping others, forgiveness, sympathy, understanding others’ feelings, acceptance, and
social courage.
2) The undesirable representations appearing through the vicious characters consisted of lacking
emotional intelligence, missing of ethics, ignoring to help others, lacking forgiveness, refusing to show
sympathy, refusing to understand others’ feelings, missing of acceptance, and lacking social courage.
The results demonstrated that students are considered a valuable and important resource. Therefore,
educational and family institutions are important parts in instructing them to meet the expectation of the
society, in order to promote sustainable development of the nation.
