Development English Speaking Skill by Using Training Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) for Supporting Staff at Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University

Abstract
The objectives of the research were 1) to survey needs of the support personnel of Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University (RMU) for improving English speaking skills through communicative language teaching activities, 2) to develop communicative language teaching activities for the RMU support personnel based on the 70/70 standardized criteria efficiency, 3) to compare the ability in speaking English of the support personnel before and after using the communicative language teaching activities, and 4) to survey the satisfaction of the personnel with the communicative language teaching activities. The research were divided into 2 phases: Phase 1, the study of the need to develop English speaking skills for communication. The population of 10 people were the supporting staff of the Faculties, Offices and Center. They were selected by purposive sampling. The research instrument was a the interview form for the need to develop English speaking skills for communication. Phase 2 study the development of English speaking skills. The sample subjects of the study were 15 personnel of Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University. They were selected by purposive sampling. The research instrument was a training package of communicative language teaching activities and English reading skill activities , an English speaking test and a questionnaire. The statistics used were the percentage, mean and standard deviation. Z-test was employed for hypothesis testing.
Results of the research were as follows:
- The research findings showed that the overall need of the RMU supporting personnel for improving English speaking skills at the highest level. The average opinion of the personnel toward the importance of English speaking skills was also at the highest level. Additionally, they needed the environment for supporting ad motivating them to speak English frequently.
- The efficiency of the communicative language teaching activities for the support personnel was 74.53/73.78 which was higher that the established criteria.
- The abilities of the support personnel in speaking English after using the communicative language teaching activities was significantly higher than that of before using the activities at the .05 level.
- The overall satisfaction of the trainees with the communicative language teaching activities was at a high level (
= 4.26, S.D.=0.82). The four high rated items of the training activities were appropriate contents for the trainees (= 4.47, S.D.=0.64), confidence in speaking English (= 4.40, S.D.=0.74), ability of systematical thinking management in work improvement (= 4.33, S.D.=0.82) and experience-based learning activities of the trainees
