Lam Competition Process in Accordance with the Scholarly Ways of Senior Molam Artists in Laos People Democratic Republic

Abstract
This research was a qualitative research which aimed at: examining the lam competition process in the
scholarly ways of senor molamartistsin Lao People Democratic Republic The researcher had gathered both
written document and field data. In collecting field data the researcher had collected data through interviews
and observations from 10 key-informants, 12 casual informants, and 10 general informants in Lao People
Democratic Republic during February 2015 and March 2018. The data were verified for their accuracy with
triangulation techniques, classified, and analyzed in accordance with the given objectives, The results of the
study were presented in a descriptive analysis form.
On the lam competition process in scholarly ways of senior molam artists, there were three steps:
1) Before Lam Competition, each molam singer had to prepare information ready for the competition; 2)
During Onstage lam Competition. Each molam had to listen to his/her counterpart attentively, and remember
its contents; 3) After Onstage Lam Competition. After finishing each lam competition, each molam singer
had to evaluate their weak points which they failed to response correctly and properly inquiring more
knowledge for the next lam competitions. Each molam singer would search for more knowledge on these matters,
preparing themselves for next lam competitions.
