The Factors Influencing Health Literacy for the Students in Secondary Schools under the Basic Education Commission in Northeast of Thailand : a multi-group Analysis

Abstract
The aims of this research were 1) to develop indicators of health literacy model of the students in secondary schools in the northeast region 2) develop and verify the factor model that have affect on health literacy of the students in secondary schools and 3) to test the invariance and parameters of the factors affecting health literacy of the students in secondary schools located between lower level and upper level and between urban and rural areas by applying a multi-group analysis. Sample size consisted of 1,799 students in secondary school under office of the basic education commission in the northeast region with the multi-stage random sampling was selected. The research instruments were 1. Health literacy and the access skill test with difficulties ranged from 0.27 - 0.80, discrimination powers range from 0.20 - 0.57 and a reliability of 0.92 and the measurement form of communication skill, using health information and decision/evaluation with reliability between 0.53 - 0.85. Data analyses employed descriptive statistics, correlation, a goodness of fit test and a multi-group analysis.
The results of this research were found that:
(1)The measurement model of health literacy confirmatory factors analysis of secondary level students composed of knowledge/understanding (KNO), access skill (ACC), communication (COM), using health information (USE) and decision/evaluation (DEC). The indicator with the highest factor weight was knowledge/understanding followed by decision/evaluation, access skill, communication skill and using health information with factor weight of 0.767, 0.751, 0.633, 0.398 and 0.293 respectively. They could be considered statistics used for checking validity of the model including: (2)There were 3 direct influence factors that ordering by the highest to the smallest coefficients; socio-economic status variable (SES) health belief variable (BEL) and health motivation variable (MOT). There were 2 indirect influence factors that ordering by the highest to the smallest coefficients; socio-economic status variable and health motivation variable. The goodness-of-fit test of the factors model of influencing health literacy showed that the model was consistent with the empirical data (3) There was no variation in the pattern of health literacy model between lower and upper secondary student levels and between urban schools and rural schools but there were variance in the parameters.
