Tool Usage Behavior for Translation Assistance in Introductory Chinese Speaking Classes for Students at Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep

Abstract
At present, technology information used in language and communication is constantly evolving. Based on the study habits of students in Chinese classes, it was found that more students in the class used tools to translate words to help them communicate in Chinese. The purpose of this study was to study the behavior of students in beginner Chinese speaking classes. The objectives of this study were: 1) to study the type and frequency of using Chinese translation, 2) to study the factors influencing the choice of Chinese translation aids, and 3) to study the differences in the behavior of using Chinese translation aids between students with different levels of Chinese language skills. The number of 45 students majoring in Chinese for Communication at Rajamangala University of Technology, Bangkok was obtained using a simple sampling method. The research tools used were multiple choice questionnaires and open-ended questions. The results showed that Google Translate was the most popular tool used by students (62.2%), followed by Google Translate (62.2%). Baidu Translate and Chat GPT (6.7%) to help find vocabulary in class (93.3%) Sentence composing (62.2%) The main factors for choosing to use the tool were convenience and speed (73.3%), ease of use (82.2%), and free of cost (80%). A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was found by the group that had never taken the HSK exam (37.8%) is used to search for basic vocabulary (33.3%), HSK3-4 group (24.4%) is used in more complex contexts, and HSK5 group (33.3%) is used in high-skill situations. A translation tools play an important role in beginner Chinese learning, especially in speaking, for teaching and learning to support Chinese learning of learners of different skill levels appropriately. According to its use in a difference of contexts, it is different.
