Abstract
The research “A Study of Mental Well-being among Older Workers in Bangkok and surrounding areas” employed a mixed-methods research design. aimed to: (1) examine the levels of mental well-being, work–life balance, self-esteem, and self-compassion among older workers in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces; (2) analyze factors influencing their mental well-being; and (3) propose guidelines for enhancing the mental well-being of older workers. The study was conducted in two phases. Phase 1 employed a quantitative approach using questionnaires to collect data from 400 participants. Data were analyzed using statistical software. Phase 2 adopted a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with 10 key informants. Data were analyzed using content analysis.
The findings revealed that overall mental well-being was at a very high level, while work–life balance, self-esteem, and self-compassion were at high levels. Factors influencing mental well-being included (1) individual factors, such as self-esteem, self-compassion, the ability to manage work–life balance, physical health, adaptability to change, and having life goals; and (2) external factors from organizations and families, including flexible work policies, workplace environment, family support and relationships, organizational social support, and organizational culture. Accordingly, guidelines for promoting mental well-being among older workers can be categorized into two main approaches : personal development and organizational development.
