ก้าวสู่การพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมยางธรรมชาติของประเทศไทยอย่างยั่งยืน ด้วยคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์และวอเตอร์ฟุตพริ้นท์

บทคัดย่อ

ประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศผู้ผลิตผลิตภัณฑ์ยางธรรมชาติอันดับหนึ่งของโลกตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2534 โดยปัจจุบันในการค้าระหว่างประเทศนอกเหนือจากเรื่องคุณภาพ มาตรฐานของผลิตภัณฑ์แล้ว ตลาดโลกและผู้บริโภคยังมีความต้องการทราบถึงข้อมูลการดำเนินงานทางสิ่งแวดล้อมของผลิตภัณฑ์นั้น เพื่อให้มีความมั่นใจว่าผลิตภัณฑ์ยางธรรมชาติน้นั มีความปลอดภัย มีกระบวนการผลิตที่รับผิดชอบต่อสังคมและสิ่งแวดล้อม ซึ่งแนวโน้มเหล่านี้ทำให้ผู้ประกอบการผลิตภัณฑ์ยางธรรมชาติของไทยต้องปรับตัวมุ่งสู่การพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมยางธรรมชาติอย่างยั่งยืนเพื่อรักษาความเป็นผู้นำการผลิตผลิตภัณฑ์ยางธรรมชาติต่อไป บทความวิชาการเรื่องนี้นำเสนอเรื่องการนำคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์ และวอเตอร์ฟุตพริ้นท์ มาประยุกต์ใช้เพื่อเป็นเครื่องมือการจัดการสิ่งแวดล้อมสำหรับอุตสาหกรรมยางธรรมชาติของไทย โดยคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์เป็นการประเมินถึงการปลดปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกตลอดวัฏจักรชีวิตของผลิตภัณฑ์ขณะที่วอเตอร์ฟุตพริ้นท์ เป็นการประเมินถึงปริมาณการใช้นํ้าตลอดวัฏจักรชีวิตของผลิตภัณฑ์ โดยนำเสนอหลักการพื้นฐานของการประเมินวัฏจักรชีวิต ขอบเขตการศึกษาและหลักการคำนวณคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์และวอเตอร์ฟุตพริ้นท์ อภิปรายการเกิดขึ้นของก๊าซเรือนกระจกและการใช้นํ้าในแต่ละระยะของวัฏจักรชีวิตของผลิตภัณฑ์ยางธรรมชาติรวมถึงอุปสรรค และโอกาสของการนำคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์และวอเตอร์ฟุตพริ้นท์มาประยุกต์ใช้ในผลิตภัณฑ์และอุตสาหกรรมยางธรรมชาติของไทยTowards Sustainable Natural Rubber Industry in Thailand with Carbon Footprint and Water Footprint

Thailand has been the world’s largest natural rubber (NR) producer since 1994. Since NR products were being exported to the international market, the requirement of information on sustainable production had been becoming inevitable. To maintain on leadership position of NR producer, it has been therefore challenging for Thai rubber entrepreneurs to seek for appropriate measures to produce environmentally friendly rubber products. This academic paper presented the application of Carbon Footprint (CF) and Water Footprint (WF) as tools for improving environmental performance of Thai natural rubber industries. Both Carbon Footprint and Water Footprint are based on principle of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for quantifying greenhouse gases emissions and water consumption, respectively. Scopes of the study and calculation principle of these two footprints are presented. Related studies on greenhouse gases emission and water consumption associated with natural rubber production were reviewed, whereas discussions on threats and opportunities of application Carbon Footprint and Water Footprint on Thai natural rubber industry were also presented.
