THE EFFECTS OF STORYTELLING WITH DISCUSSION ACTIVITY ON SPEAKING ABILITY OF PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN AT ANUBAN NONG YING SCHOOL IN UBON RATCHATHANI PROVINCE

Abstract

The  purposes  of  this  research  were (1) to  study  the  changes  in speaking  ability  of  preschool  children  at  Anuban  Nong  Ying  School  in  Ubon  Ratchathani  province  who participated  in  storytelling  with  discussion  activities; and  (2) to  compare  speaking  abilities  of  the  preschool children  before  and  after participating in the  storytelling  with  discussion  activities.

The  research  samples  comprised  20  preschool  children, 4-5 years  old, studying  at the  second  year  kindergarten  level  in  Anuban  Nong  Ying  School, Ubon  Ratchathani  province  during  the  first semester  of  the  2016  academic  year,  obtained  by  cluster  sampling.  The  employed research instruments  were (1) the  storytelling  with discussion activity  plans for preschool  children, and (2) an observation  form on  speaking  ability  of  preschool  children. Statistics for data analysis  were  the mean, standard deviation, and  t-test.

The  research  findings  showed  that  (1) the speaking ability of preschool  children participating in storytelling with discussion activities were continually changing  on  the increase; and (2) after  participating  in  the  storytelling  with discussion activities,  the preschool  children’s post-experiment  speaking ability mean scores  was  significantly  higher  than  their  pre-experiment  counterpart mean scores at the .05 level  of statistical significance.
