FACTORS INFLUENCING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE LABOR FORCE IN NAKHON PHANOM PROVINCE

Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) examine the level of quality of life among persons with disabilities in the labor force in Nakhon Phanom Province; (2) analyze the factors influencing the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the labor force in Nakhon Phanom Province; and (3) propose guidelines for enhancing the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the labor force in Nakhon Phanom Province. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative research was employed. A questionnaire was used as the primary instrument for data collection. The content validity indices of the instrument ranged from 0.67 to 1.00, and the overall reliability coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.924, indicating a high level of internal consistency. Quantitative data were collected from 375 participants. The sample size was calculated using the Taro Yamane formula, and participants were selected through stratified random sampling based on types of disability and occupational characteristics. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis to test the research hypotheses. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 key informants who had direct experience related to the living conditions and employment of persons with disabilities. The participants were selected using purposive sampling, and the qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.      


The findings revealed that: (1) the overall quality of life of persons with disabilities in the labor force in Nakhon Phanom Province was at a high level. When considered by dimension, all aspects were also rated at a high level, with the physical domain having the highest mean score, followed by the environmental domain and the social relationships domain, respectively. (2) Regarding the factors influencing the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the labor force in Nakhon Phanom Province, the results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated that access to rights and welfare, social support, education and vocational skills, income and job security, and opportunities for social interaction and participation jointly predicted the quality of life with statistical significance at the .05 level. All factors exerted positive influences. In terms of relative influence, opportunities for social interaction and participation had the strongest effect, followed by income and job security, social support, access to rights and welfare, and education and vocational skills, respectively.
