Development of a Curriculum to Enhance the Teenage Counseling Competency for Pre-service Teachers

Abstract

     This Research aims to study the student-teachers’ needs of the development of competence in teenage counseling and to develop a curriculum to enhance the teenage counseling competency for student-teachers. Research population was 374 student-teachers of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Academic Year 2021. The researchers used a stratified random sampling for a sample size of 189 people. Then collect the data with the need assessment form. The results were analyzed using the Priority Needs Index method. And designed the structure of curriculum to enhance the teenage counseling competency for student-teachers, after that it were quality assessed by 5 experts. After improved and developed the complete curriculum, it was assessed by the 15 experts from the Faculty of Education, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. The researchers used SPSS program to analyze frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.

     The research results show that 1) the use of follow-up results to summarize the counseling guidelines on a case-by-case basis was the most required by student-teachers for adolescent counseling (PNImodified = 0.51) but the ability to tell positive and negative results. of alternative solutions is the least (PNImodified = 0.19) 2) the quality of the curriculum for enhancing the teenage counseling competency for student-teachers was at the highest level ( gif.latex?\bar{x} = 4.51, S.D. = 0.59)
