Factors Affecting Risk Behaviors of Falls in The Elderly of Pattanawatking Community, Samutprakarn Province

Abstract

Descriptive research was used in conjunction with correlational research. The objective is to study the level of risk behavior in the elderly. To study the predisposing factors, the enabling factors and the reinforcing factors which can predict the risk of falling behavior in the elderly pattanawatking Community, Rachathewa Subdistrict, Bangphli District, Samutprakan Province. The sample consisted of 210 elderly people aged 60 years and over who lived in Pattanawatking Subdistrict. Data were analyzed by frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum value, and tested by prediction by Multiple Regression Analysis. At the statistical significance level 0.05


            The results of this study, most of the elderly are female, 74.76% are 66.19% aged between 60-69 years, 51.43% are living in a family of 4-6 people, having 79.52% of underlying diseases with blood pressure. The highest is 58.10%, with the ability to see clearly 69.52% and has a history of falls in the past 6 months. 37.62 percent. The results of this study, most of the elderly are female, 74.76% are 66.19% aged between 60-69 years, 51.43% are living in a family of 4-6 people, having 79.52% of underlying diseases with blood pressure. The highest is 58.10%, with the ability to see clearly 69.52% and has a history of falls in the past 6 months. 37.62 percent of the elderly had risk behaviors in falls at a moderate level ( =0.71, S.D.=0.17). According to the findings, the predisposing factors include chronic diseases, the enabling factors including disorderly placement of things and the route to travel with slope, the reinforcing factors including a friend helping with falls and exercise with friends. It can predict the risk of falling behavior in the elderly by 24.4% with statistical significance 0.05 with the regression coefficient equal to -0.098, 0.072, 0.072, 0.091, -0.015 and -0.139 respectively. As for family members, there was no effect on risk behavior of falling in the elderly.


            The results of this study can be used to find ways to look after elderly people to prevent falls. There are improvements to the environment in the home to be safe. No objects blocking the path to prevent falls should improve the environment of the slope traveling route to be safe to prevent falls accident lay out guidelines for the development of surveillance systems and assist elderly falls by providing health personnel monitoring of falls in the elderly and create a project or activity to prevent falls in the elderly.
