Corporate social responsibility of hotel business

The objectives of this research are 1. to investigate factors affecting CSR of hotel business organization,
2. to study the patterns of CSR operation of hotel business organization, and 3. to study the effect of CSR operations on organizational performance. This research is a qualitative study, using questionnaires as research instrument. The data were collected from both human resource managers and managers or staff members who were related to CSR operation. The total number of them are 15 persons from 5 hotels which were members of the Green Leaf Foundation. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The research results can be divided into three categories. First, the research results on factors affecting CSR of hotel business organization show that factors affecting the CSR operations of the hotel business organization, which were divided into 2 main areas: 1. Internal factors that are leadership factor, organizational policy factor, communication and human resource development factor and organizational resources factor; and 2. External factors that are legal or standard factor and participation with partners factor. Second, the research results on the patterns of CSR operation of hotel business organization show that the hotel business organizations operated CSR in 4 areas--economic responsibility, legal responsibility, ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility-- Third, the research results on the effect of CSR operations on organizational performance show that corporate social responsibilities had direct and indirect influence on the organizational performance in 4 aspects as follows: finance, customers, internal process, as well as learning and organizational development.
