บทความนี้เป็นการดึงสาระบางประการของกฎมณเทียรบาลมาศึกษาภาพความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพระมหา กษัตริย์กับเหล่าลูกขุนข้าทูลละออง (ตามคำศัพท์ที่ปรากฏในกฎมณเทียรบาล แต่เอกสารในสมัยต่อมา เรียกว่าขุนนางข้าราชการ) ทั้งฝ่ายหน้าและฝ่ายใน ความสัมพันธ์กับฝ่ายหน้าที่ปรากฏคือความหวาดระแวงเกรงว่าคนเหล่านี้คิดจะแย่งชิงราชบัลลังก์ ส่วนความสัมพันธ์กับฝ่ายในเป็นลักษณะความคาดหวังให้บุคคลเหล่านี้รักษาพระเกียรติยศและจารีตประเพณีโดยไม่กระทำการอันลบหลู่พระเกียรติยศของพระองค์

Abstract

This article aims to study some content of the Palatine Law (Kot Monthianban) which reflects the relationship between kings and their two groups of servers: the “font” group or state-affair officials, and the “inner” group or royal-affair officials. The relationship between kings and their state-affair officials is that kings are paranoid about the throne. While the relationship between kings and their royal-affair officials is that kings expect them to help keep the royal prestige and royal traditions, as well as not do anything harmful to the royal prestige.
