บทคัดย่อ

พระอุโบสถวัดชุมพลนิกายารามเป็นพระอุโบสถในสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ที่เขียนจิตรกรรมฝาผนังพุทธประวัติแต่ไม่ปรากฏภาพตอนมารวิชัย นักวิชาการบางท่านอธิบายถึงสาเหตุของการไม่ปรากฏภาพตอนนี้ว่าเป็นเพราะพุทธศาสนาในแนวความคิดของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวนั้น ต้องการปฏิเสธเรื่องราวที่เป็นอิทธิฤทธิ์ปาฏิหาริย์ของพระพุทธเจ้า ซึ่งขัดแย้งกับข้อสรุปที่ได้จากการศึกษานี้ แท้จริงแล้วการเรียบเรียงพุทธประวัติในแนวความคิดของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวนั้นน่าจะเชื่อในสิ่งที่พิจารณาแล้วว่าเป็นข้อความในพระไตรปิฎกบาลีโดยตรง ทำให้มีเรื่องราวจำนวนมากที่เชื่อว่าแต่งขึ้นภายหลังเช่นในชั้นอรรถกถาลงมานั้นไม่ได้รับการยอมรับ และไม่ปรากฏบนจิตรกรรมฝาผนังในพระอุโบสถวัดชุมพลนิกายาราม

Abstract

The ubosoth of Wat Chumpolnikayaram, renovated in the reign of King Rama the Fourth, houses murals depicting the life of Buddha. But the scene of subduing Mara does not exist. The former belief that King Rama the Fourth rejected miracle parts of the Buddha’s life, and the present day conclusion of this study are contradictory.

In fact, the rewritten version of the Buddha’s life story appears to be based on stories believed to be authentic. Only the messages in the Tri-Pitaka were applied. So many episodes believed to benewer have been found to be unacceptable. It also greatly affected the drawing of murals in this ubosoth.
