บทคัดย่อ
งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษานัยทางการเมืองในหนังสือ “เสภาเรื่องขุนช้าง - ขุนแผน” ฉบับหอพระสมุดวชิรญาณโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่ออธิบายนัยทางการเมือง ทั้งในมิติของความคิดทางการเมืองที่ปรากฏในตัวบท ตลอดจนบริบทและวาระทางการเมืองที่ขับเคลื่อนให้เกิดการตรวจชำระและจัดพิมพ์หนังสือเล่มนี้ ขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2460 ด้วยการตีความตัวบทอย่างละเอียด และการวิเคราะห์เชิงบริบทผลการวิจัยพบว่า ตัวบทของหนังสือ “เสภาเรื่องขุนช้าง - ขุนแผน” ฉบับหอพระสมุดฯ สามารถเป็นภาพแทนความจริงของสังคม ที่จะเน้นย้ำให้เห็นถึงปฏิสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจระหว่างผู้คนในชนชั้นต่างๆ ทั้งยังแฝงไว้ด้วยแนวคิดเรื่องความจงรักภักดี โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งของข้าราชการทหารต่อสถาบันพระมหากษัติรย์ ซึ่งเมื่อพิจารณาควบคู่ไปกบัสถานะและบทบาทของสมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพ สภานายกหอพระสมุดฯ ขณะนั้น รวมถึงบริบทของรัฐไทยในห้วงเวลาดังกล่าว ทำให้สันนิษฐานได้ว่า การเกิดขึ้นของหนังสือเล่มนี้ มิน่าที่จะเป็นไปเพียงเพื่อ “รักษาหนังสือกลอนเป็นอย่างดีในภาษาไทยไว้ให้ถาวร” ดังที่พระองค์ทรงกล่าวไว้ กระทั่งยึดถือกันในปัจจุบันเท่านั้น หากแต่น่าที่จะเป็นไปเพื่อวัตถุประสงค์ทางการเมือง ที่ทรงมุ่งหมายจะปลูกฝังความจงรักภักดีต่อสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์ ให้เกิดขึ้นในหมู่ประชาชน โดยอาศัยภาพแทนความจริงดังกล่าว เป็นตัวแบบ

Abstract
This research is a study of the political implication in the National Library version book named “Sae Pha Khun Chang - Khun Phaen”. Its purposes are to describe the political implication which appeared in texts as political thought dimension and, there appeared the whole contexts with a political agenda to drive to the advents of archives scrutiny and settling publications in 1917 under the deliberately-particular performance of interpretation and contextual analysis. The research has evealed that texts in this aforementioned, the National Library version “Sae Pha Khun Chang - Khun Phaen”, had portrayed the real figures of society, particularly, the relationship among people’s castes in vertical power with disguising loyalty of military to the monarch. As the study has showed the status and role of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, the president of the National Library, with the Thai State’s scenario at that time, we have come to a presumption that the advent of the mentioned book wasn’t only to maintain the Thai poetry scheme orderly in Thai language’s system as ultimately perfect as anticipated but also to establish the monarchism’s loyalty among Thai people by resorting the deeply-disguised figures as typically formed.
